The Caddo, The Comanche & 1819

As a sort of prelude to the upcoming Hasinai Indians post, I want to post some things I noticed about the Caddo and Comanche Indians. The post isn’t necessarily about the Indians themselves, it’s about the concocted labels for American Indian tribes/peoples by the groups who colonized the people and land. The year 1819 seems to be a common factor, which was the year of the Yellowstone Expedition, the Anti-Piracy wars, and the Adam-Onis treaty aka the Transcontinental treaty aka the Florida treaty.

Who’s Who?

Where did the name for the Caddo tribe or confederacy come from? According to the forebears.io website, no one in Ireland or any British island is currently holding Caddo as a surname.

Again, I’m just curious about the connections with the label of “Caddo” for the groups claimed to be apart of it. If anyone has more information or resources about the term and it’s origin, please leave a comment below!
